Berkeleyside is Berkeley, California’s independent award-winning local news organization, publishing Berkeley news site Berkeleyside and East Bay food site Nosh.
Launched in 2009, Berkeleyside was founded by three veteran journalists: Lance Knobel, Tracey Taylor and Frances Dinkelspiel. Since then we have been joined by partner and Business Director Wendy Cohen, Senior Reporter Emilie Raguso, Nosh Editor Kate Williams, and Sales Executive Debbie McKeen.
A pioneer in the field of online local journalism, and a model for local news sites across the country, Berkeleyside averages 700,000 page views and 220,000 unique visitors a month.
Berkeleyside was the winner of the Society of Professional Journalists’ Northern California “Excellence in Journalism Award for Community Journalism” in both 2013 and 2014. In 2015, Berkeleyside won “Best Local Twitter Account in the East Bay” from the East Bay Express.
Berkeleyside produces the annual Uncharted Berkeley Festival of Ideas. Uncharted was founded in 2013 as the Bay Area’s first ideas festival. It brings together some of the world’s great thinkers for two thrilling days of discussion, debate, networking and workshops designed to engage and inspire.
Berkeleyside is proud to be a Benefit Corporation (or B Corp), defined as “a type of for-profit corporate entity that includes positive impact on society, workers the community and the environment.”
